One way to enter the exciting and challenging world of nursing is to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s) care for the sick, injured, convalescing, and handicapped, under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. Most LPN’s provide basic bedside care. They take vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration. They help patients with personal hygiene, feed them, and record food and liquid intake and output, keep them comfortable, and care for their emotional needs.
Less than 2 years. An applicant for a license to practice as a practical nurse must complete high school or equivalent, complete an approved program of practical nursing, and pass the NCLEX-PN exam.
