The mission of the Department of Communication Science and Disorders is to establish and provide distinctive academic programs for students in Speech-Language Pathology, collaborations with community partners, and service to individuals with communication disorders.
The department is committed to preparing students to become dedicated, competent clinical leaders in the field of Speech Language Pathology. The curriculum emphasizes the problem-solving and critical thinking skills necessary to become strong clinical professionals capable of serving a diverse client population.
The Department grants the B.S. degree in Speech-Language Pathology. A master’s degree is also offered. Individuals interested in obtaining the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the state license from the Alabama Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (ABESPA) will be required to complete a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
